Chris Forbes

President and CEO

As CEO, Chris Forbes has piloted Knovel since the company’s founding in 2000, guiding the company to its current position as the leading online technical resource collection for engineers and applied scientists. Forbes helped launch and grow Knovel to serve thousands of subscribers including 75 Fortune 500 companies and over 300 leading technical universities worldwide. 

 

As President of William Andrew Publishing, Forbes leveraged his background in finance, publishing, acquisitions, and general management to boost William Andrew’s market share in technical reference publishing. Before joining William Andrew, he founded and was managing director of Toronto Dominion Securities (USA), now TD Ameritrade in New York City. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from the University of Toronto.

Forbes serves on the Board of Change for Kids, a foundation that brings fine art programs to New York City’s most under-funded schools and is a member of the Young President’s Organization (YPO).

Barbara Wasserman

Executive Vice President of Operations

Barbara Wasserman is a senior executive with proven publishing and operations management experience.  Her areas of expertise include text, professional, scholarly, trade, reference books, and journals.  She has in-depth experience in managing and integrating mergers/acquisitions, implementing major IT systems, and developing and executing innovative marketing and sales initiatives.

 

Barbara began her publishing career with Macmillan, where she rose to the position of Marketing Manager.  She then joined Oxford University Press, where she served in positions of increasing responsibility: Vice President and Marketing Director for science and medicine, Senior Vice President and Publisher of OUP’s College and Medicine Division, and, lastly, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

 

Barbara recently joined Knovel as Executive Vice President of Operations.  In addition to her operations role, she will focus on relationships with publishing partners and Knovel’s presence in the academic market.

 

Barbara holds a BA from the University of Connecticut and an MA from UCLA.

John Dooley

Vice President of Sales

John Dooley brings 18 years of sales management experience to his role as Vice President of Sales, where he is responsible for building Knovel’s subscription base globally, in both industry and academia.

 

Previously, as the North American Director of Sales for UGS, a Product Lifecycle Management Solutions company, John was instrumental in accelerating sales productivity and major account development, while achieving record setting revenue.  Prior to UGS, John worked for Kyocera as National Sales Manager. 

 

John graduated with a BS in Ceramic Engineering from Rutgers University

Grant Hunter

Vice President of Product Marketing

Grant Hunter, Knovel’s Vice President of Product Marketing, is responsible for developing and executing initiatives to extend Knovel to more engineering desktops.

 

Prior to Knovel, Hunter provided marketing, strategy, and business development consulting to companies including IHS and Elsevier. He also held executive roles with GE including Vice President, Enterprise Solutions Business Unit.

 

Hunter holds a BS in Analytical Management from Juniata College and an MBA in Marketing/Strategy from Penn State University. Hunter also received green belt training in Six Sigma from GE.

Delores Meglio

Vice President of Publisher Relations

 

Delores Meglio brings decades of publishing experience to her role as Knovel’s Vice President of Publisher Relations, where she is responsible for guiding content selection, licensing, and production.

 

Prior to joining Knovel, Meglio served as Senior Vice President for Ziff-Davis and Thomson Corporation, producing more than 100 highly profitable online and Web-enabled databases in technology, business, and health. As Vice President of the New York Times information division, Meglio developed ground-breaking databases for the White House, oil, gas and energy industries. She is a recognized expert in the field of digital publishing, database management and content aggregation.

 

Meglio is a graduate of City College of New York, holds a Masters Degree in Information Science from St. John's University and attended the INSEAD European Management Institute in Fontainebleau, France. In 1992, Meglio won the YWCA Tribute to Women in Business Award.

Robert E. Smith

Vice President of Information Technology

Robert E. Smith, Knovel’s Vice President of Information Technology, brings over 22 years of technology experience to Knovel, where he is responsible for building and supporting the infrastructure that powers Knovel’s online collection and advanced search capability.

 

Prior to Knovel, Smith was the Director of Enterprise Platform Services and Architecture for Harcourt Assessment, a member of the Reed Elsevier family of companies.  He also worked for IBM’s National Architecture & Technology Practice Center of Excellence and Eastman Kodak’s Image Bank.

 

Smith holds an MS in Computer Information Systems and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Central Texas. He was certified as an IT Architect by IBM in 2001.

Angelo J. Taranto

Corporation Treasurer and Controller

Angelo Taranto, as Corporate Treasurer and Controller, oversees finance and operations for Knovel.

 

Prior to joining Knovel he served as a financial executive with William Andrew Inc., Microtouch Systems, Inc., and Manager Software Products, Inc.  He also spent fourteen years with Itek Graphics Corporation in accounting and tax roles.

 

Taranto received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y. and an AAS in Accounting from SUNY.

Mary O' Connell

Director of Human Resources

 

As Director of HR, Mary O’Connell brings more than 25 years of human resources experience to Knovel, where she is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic human resources initiatives and practices that help realize the company's business objectives.

 

Prior to Knovel, O’Connell held HR executive roles at companies including Schweizer Aircraft, NCR, BMC, and A&P.

 

O'Connell holds a BS degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
